HostedControls starts at the Building Automation System. Because of recent advancements in the area of BAS Network to Web Services translation, and the advent of recent Building Automation and Controls dedicated Web Services initiatives, there are more Web Services Gateways available now than ever before. Chances are your BAS Network is supported by one or more Web Services Gateways, and HostedControls can communicate and transact with any Web Services Gateway.

The Web Services Gateway (WSG) is the BAS on-ramp to the Internet and its ability to communicate and transact with HostedControls. Although Web Services is a standardized process of publishing and consuming interfaces with building automation systems, there are differences to each methodology. We put every WSG through a rigorous testing, and then construct a profile called a Service Provider Profile (SPP), so that you can be assured that the WSG you choose works as intended.

The HostedControls Application is actually made up of several open architectural components, services, and frameworks, all working together as HostedControlsSM. All of these pieces run on multiple servers in a secure and highly available hosting environment.

The central database is arguably the most critical component of the HostedControlsSM application. This is where all the data from the Web Services Gateways are stored. Our application database was meticulously architected for speed and scalability. Our ability to processes millions of transaction per day relies on this robust database server.

HostedControlsSM entirely web based, and is designed to never need any client-side applications or plug-ins. The one exception is temporary: Until new browser versions introduce native support for Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), our SVG/AJAX SmartGraphics™ Module requires that you have a SVG viewer plug-in installed, and we recommend the free one from Adobe Systems.
